Aims:
The course aims to examine the relationship between work activities and their effect on the environment;
identify the main sources of  man-made pollutants and examine their typical patterns of emission and distribution;
consider the technical and scientific control measures available to mitigate the impact of industrial emissions and discharges into the environment.


Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action.


The course aims to:

a)    Introduce the concept of environmental management and establish its relationship with occupational safety and health;
b)    Examine the environmental management strategies available to  organisations both nationally and internationally;
c)    Explore the concept of sustainability and examine its relationship with industry;
d)     Examine the national and international administrative and legal controls of environmental pollutants.

a)    Strengthen the student's understanding of the role of ergonomics in occupational health and safety,
b)    Provide the student with the knowledge and skills to enable them to undertake basic ergonomic evaluations of working environments and make suitable recommendations on the basis of those evaluations.

The course aims to:

a)    Introduce students to the health hazards of substances that are used at work.
b)    Describe why hazardous substances are commonly used in industries and their harmful effects.
c)    Explain the underpinning principles of physiology, toxicology and epidemiology.

The Fundamentals of Health Safety and Environment (FHSE), from SBCS, is the next step after completing any one of the following qualifications stipulated in the "entry requirements" section below. This qualification can be earned in just three (3) months. Students will be assessed and issued a certificate by SBCS.
