The aim of this course is to introduce the students to the role of the professional engineer working within an organization and a management structure. Furthermore, it aims to provide an awareness of the

theory and practice of management and the management of human resources in an engineering environment. Finally, the course aims to provide the students with key knowledge in specific areas of business and management practices in order to meet the demands of the highly competitive engineering industry.


The aims of this course are to promote the ability to work on an independent basis, with limited supervision, whilst fostering problem-solving skills and the ability to integrate material from different subject areas. Additionally this course aims to enable the students to follow written directions for the construction, testing and use of an engineering product, as well as practicing the development of specifications and their subsequent implementation.

Aim

  • To develop a reflective level of understanding of human resource management and industrial relations.
  • To analyze the strategic importance of management choice and decision making.
  • To demonstrate ways in which business development and product policy can be planned and implemented.
  • To reflect on the importance of product quality and management performance and issues of corporate social responsibility and the legal environment in which organizations operate.

The aim of this course is to provide the opportunity for a student, in a supportive and controlled environment, to bring together their existing and new found engineering knowledge and skills via the use of a team/group design project. Using a 'real life' external derived project the student will gain valuable experience in the identification, design and management of a problem solution whilst working within a commercial environment. the student via this course will gain confidence in the operational requirements as a practicing professional engineer and thereby enhancing the student's employability now and within their future career
